Privacy Policy

NearMe is a local search engine for Sumter, South Carolina. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we don't do.

If you search on NearMe

• Your location is used only to find nearby results. Your exact location is not stored. For improving NearMe, we keep an approximate area, rounded to about 1 km (roughly half a mile).
• What you search for, how many results came back, and which result you tapped (for example, "Directions") are recorded so we can find gaps and fix bad results.
• We do not ask for your name, require an account to search, store your IP address with your searches, or use advertising trackers.

If you have a business account

• We store your email address to sign you in and contact you about your listing.
• We keep a record of which listings you manage and how ownership was verified.
• Information you add to your listing (such as hours, phone, website, description, and tags) is public, because the point is for people to find you.

Who we share data with

We don't sell personal information. NearMe runs on a few service providers that process data on our behalf: Supabase (database and sign-in), Netlify (website hosting), and our email provider (sign-in emails). Maps are provided by OpenFreeMap, and typed addresses are looked up with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. Business information comes partly from Overture Maps open data.
